Alfred Parsons (1810-1886) was a farmer and land speculator who bought up a few square miles of Maine Township and nearby townships to sell at higher prices later. He subdivided some of his land along with Simeon Lee for what is known as "Lee and Parsons Addition," the area of downtown along Lee Street and Graceland Avenue.
